Ian Gobin

Biography

Ian Gobin is joint global head of our Investment Funds and Regulatory groups.

He advises on the legal and regulatory set-up and treatment of investment funds, private equity funds and management companies established in the Cayman Islands. He also advises on structured finance, fund finance, IPOs, digital assets/blockchain technology and digital security offerings.

Prior to joining us, Ian was the global head of the Investment Funds teams at Appleby and prior to that he was a partner at Walkers. Before going offshore in 2001, Ian trained and qualified as a solicitor at Clifford Chance in London, working in the capital markets group as well as undertaking a number of secondments with Morgan Stanley.

His current practice is focused on fund managers, collateral managers, banks as well as digital security promoters, their clients and their service providers.

He also advises institutional and private clients throughout North America, Europe and LatAm on funds, structured finance and fund finance matters. He’s a regular industry commentator and speaker at industry conferences and also gives lectures having recently spoken at both Columbia University and Harvard University on blockchain technology and investment funds.

Ian is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, a Cayman Islands attorney-at-law and a solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Eastern Caribbean.
